As forehead skin ages and sags, the upper facial features can fall out of balance. Baggy skin collects in the lower forehead, eyebrows, and above the nose; in some cases, the upper eyelids become completely obscured. A forehead lift is a straightforward procedure to address all of these issues. This procedure can also help bring facial features into balance for patients who simply have a disproportionately large forehead.

How Forehead Lifts Work

During a forehead lift procedure, Dr. Schmidt will reposition excess skin and underlying soft tissues of the forehead to undo drooping and create a brighter, more youthful appearance. As with any procedure at Schmidt Plastic Surgery, a focus on overall facial balance is key; rigorous surgical techniques prevent the undesirable surprised expression that results from over-elevation of the forehead and eyebrows.

To avoid visible scarring after a forehead lift, Dr. Schmidt makes incisions based on the hairline. A full head of hair generally means incisions will follow the hairline, so that scars are hidden after healing. Patients who wear their hair in ponytails find they still feel comfortable doing so after a forehead lift. For patients with receded hairlines, minimally invasive surgical techniques will ensure small, inconspicuous scars.

Surgery And Recovery

Many of our patients find that a forehead lift is most efficient and cost-effective when performed as part of a comprehensive facelift or alongside a brow lift. When performed in conjunction with other procedures, forehead lifts do not add significant time to the surgery. A forehead lift takes about 20 to 30 minutes in isolation.

If a forehead lift is right for you, plan for roughly a month of recovery time. You will wear a compressive head wrap for the first 24 hours and you should expect to avoid most physical activity for the first week post-surgery. During the second week, you can increase activity slightly. Most exercise can resume after the third week.
