For many men and women, the frustration of balding isn’t just about hair loss. It’s about losing part of your identity–the hair you grew long for your rock band, cut short when you started your first job, or dyed crazy colors for your favorite team.

Hair transplantation is a straightforward solution to counteract balding and restore a full head of hair that you can continue cutting and styling as you always have. For this procedure, Dr. Schmidt uses a sophisticated hair transplantation technology called NeoGraft that produces even, natural results with no evidence of surgery.

NeoGraft can also be used to restore facial hair or to camouflage scars in the scalp or beard area.

    How do hair transplants work?

The NeoGraft technique is different than traditional hair transplants, which typically involve grafting a large section of skin with many hair follicles onto the balding area.

Transplantation with NeoGraft is a much more precise and much less invasive procedure. Rather than removing many follicles at once, NeoGraft extracts individual follicles, which are then transferred to tiny delivery sites in the balding area of the scalp.

The results are seamless and no visible scars are created.

While this hair transplantation technique is minimally invasive, it does require a great deal of technical skill and even artistry to achieve natural, uniform results. Dr. Schmidt’s extensive training and expertise with the technology allows him to restore the hairline and hair thickness that patients recognize as their own when they look in the mirror.

    Results and recovery

Hair transplant patients should be aware that the results for this procedure are not immediate. First, the grafts must fall out (or “shed”), and then it often takes several months for new hair to grow in their place.

Of course, the results are worth the wait: a healthy, natural head of your own hair that you can cut, dye, and style like you always have.

Dr. Schmidt will provide personalized instructions regarding post-operative care for the scalp after hair transplantation. Typically, patients can remove dressings after about two days, but should wait at least a week before returning to normal activity. Rigorous activity can be resumed after several weeks.

While the hair grafts themselves are long-lasting, the balding process does not stop after the procedure. Many patients decide to return for touch-up procedures in the following months or years after initial surgery.
