How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, a substance that the body produces naturally to protect skin, joints and more. The fillers come as gels that, once injected into the face, assimilate with skin tissue.

Dr. Schmidt uses a range of dermal filler products (including Belotero, Juvéderm^® and Radiesse^®) to address everything from surface creases to deep wrinkles or volume loss. Belotero is specifically designed to eliminate precise, superficial wrinkles such as lines around the mouth. Juvéderm^® and Radiesse^® work deeper in the skin to smooth folds and restore lost volume.

Results and recovery

Again, recovery will vary among patients, but generally speaking very little downtime is required after injection. Some swelling or bruising may occur immediately after the procedure, and most patients can return to normal activity within a week.
